Part of my work for this website is classwork for a college course. Under is a practice lesson plan taught to a certain standard for the state of Florida. While this standard is core to the lesson plan, these initial elements also involve other standards around writing, critical thinking, and interpretation.
Standard: LAFS.8.RL.3.7
Understandings
Students will understand...
- the limitations of a text vs. a film, staged production, audio drama, graphic novel, ect.
- how choices made in an adaptation to a medium affects how the story is told.
- how to critically analyze a work through the media its depicted with as compared to adaptations through a different medium
Essential Questions
- How do the differences in presentation in each type of media affect how the story is told?
- What makes this adaptation in x medium different from this one in y medium?
- How could you improve or use x elements of this medium to adapt a story?
- What could be lost or gained in changing the medium through which a story is told?
ABCD Objectives
Outcomes; students will be able to...
- describe, in technical narrative terms, how differences between a text and its adaptation affect the work's themes, plot, and messages using an organizational chart (Venn diagram, T-chart, concept map, ect.).
